FAQs

What is the IP Rating (Ingress Protection) for electric actuators?

The IP Rating indicates the layers of safeguarding against the intrusion of solid objects (tools, dust, fingers and moisture) into the actuator and is governed by the European standard IEC 60529.

The Metal Company’s electric actuator has a rating of IP67 which means it has full resistance to dust and other small objects and is protected from temporary immersion of liquids between 15 centimetres and 1 metre in depth for 30 minutes.

The first digit in this case 6 (from 0 to 6 – least to most respectively), refers to how well the enclosure protects the internal electronics from solids and people, while the second digit in this case 7 (0 to 9) refers to how well the enclosure protects against liquids.
