The SMS union is technically known as the Swedish Manufacturing Standard Union.

SMS Unions are used in a wide variety of applications which include dairy, abattoir, and beverage industries but are not commonly used in New Zealand. 

Typically SMS Unions come pre-fitted on parts and machinery that are imported. The SMS union has a seal that is  flat-faced, When tightening, the seal is compressed into the  recessed face of the male part creating a tightly sealed connection. The SMS Union is also identifiable by the rounder threads on the male part. 

This fitting is a hygienic union that has the added advantage of being totally removable in position due to its flat face. This enhances the union’s suitability to be used in frequently dismantled piping systems.
